Authorizing a Senate Task Force on AAUP Demands

Background
On May 5, the Senate approved a motion in support of AAUP demands by a vote of 23 yes, three no, and four abstentions. This resolution:
- Calls on members of the WWU community to refuse anticipatory obedience, to defend academic freedom, and to protect non-citizens in our community
- Recognizes Western Washington University's obligation to protect academic freedom and follow disciplinary procedures as required by contractual agreement
- Recognizes Western Washington University's obligation to comply with Washington state law in not cooperating with federal immigration authorities
- Calls on Western Washington University to support and comply with the endorsed AAUP demands
At the June 2 meeting, there was a request from a non-senator speaker during Items from the Floor that the Senate support the creating of a an hoc committee or task force to begin work on the AAUP Demands over the summer.
Senate Action
On June 2, Senator Sondra Cuban made a motion, and was seconded, to create a charge and convene an ad hoc committee or task force group. The motion passed unanimously, with 2 abstentions.
On June 5, the Senate Executive Council approved a charge to establish the AAUP Support Task Force and sent a call to service to all faculty members.
