Certification of Senate Appointments and Elections

Section 12 of the Faculty Senate Bylaws creates an annual process by which elections are conducted. Under this process, the Appointments and Elections Officer must submit a proposed election schedule and distribution list for approval by the Faculty Senate during the Winter Quarter, with elections to be conducted by college governance bodies and certified by the Faculty Senate. 

On October 28, 2024, the Faculty Senate considered the following motions related to appointments and elections. 

• Johann Neem, Appointments and Elections Officer, made a motion to approve the appointment of Ed Love (CBE) to the WWU Patent and Copyright Committee. The motion was seconded and passed by unanimous consent.
• Johann Neem made a motion to approve the appointment of Hart Hodges (CBE) to the Committee on Undergraduate Education. The motion was seconded and passed by unanimous consent.
• Johann Neem made a motion to approve the appointment of Paul Stangl (CENV) to Faculty Senate. The motion was seconded. During discussion, student concerns about the appointment were raised. The motion failed by a secret ballot vote of four yes, eleven no, five abstentions, three non-voting (Zoom).
