Guidance Regular and Substantive Interaction Revisions
Effective Date
ACC Approved on May 20, 2025.
Faculty Senate approved via ACC minutes on June 2, 2025.
Background
On May 6, 2025, ACC reviewed the current RSI policy and discussed proposed draft revisions. The only proposed change was that that instructor time engaging in indirect grading is not RSI. Commissioners decided to draft additional language clarifying faculty RSI in different modalities. A final draft was scheduled for a May 20 ACC vote.
On May 20, ACC discussed and made additional grammatical corrections to the working draft. They also added clarifying language that the guidance applies only to hybrid courses with asynchronous instructional component, asynchronous courses, or asynchronous/synchronous mixed courses, as well as a note that, if the course is face-to-face or fully synchronous online, RSI is documented through course meeting times, and no additional documentation is the syllabus is needed.
ACC Action
On May 20, 2025, a motion made by Rebekah Paci-Green, and seconded, to approve the revised Guidance Regular and Substantive Interaction document passed unanimously.
