Revised ACC Policy on Credit Hours

Effective Date

Senate approved on April 22, 2024 by a vote of 15 to 6, with one abstention.

Background

On April 16, 2024, the Academic Coordinating Committee (ACC) approved a revised Policy on Credit Hours and RSI Guidance document to meet the regulatory emphasis on Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).  The Department of Education issues regulations guiding online education, and all institutions that receive Federal financial support, including student financial aid, must comply.

These documents should guide the preparation of any Proposals for Alternate Modality Courses so that they comply with the Federal governments regulatory requirements for Regular and Substantive Interaction in online education.

Both the RSI Guidance Document and Policy on Credit Hours were presented to the Faculty Senate on April 23, 2024, with action required on the Policy before it could be effective. The Guidance Document, which does require Senate approval, was discussed by the Senate and is considered a working draft by the ACC.

Senate Action

A motion was made by Troy Abel to approve the Credit Hour Policy and seconded.

The motion passed with 15 yes votes, five no votes, and one abstention.
